Allen Park, MI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Lions have released cornerback Alphonso Smith on Monday.

The four-year pro appeared in four games with the Lions this season after being re-signed on Oct. 18 and totaled eight tackles and two passes defensed.

Over his four years in the NFL, three with Detroit and one with Denver, he has totaled 88 tackles and eight interceptions in 42 games.

He was a second-round pick of Denver in 2009.
