Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Pirates agreed to terms Friday with pitcher Charlie Morton on a one-year contract.

Morton made nine starts for the Pirates in 2012, compiling a 2-6 record with a 4.65 ERA, before undergoing Tommy John surgery in June.

The right-hander owns a 23-45 record with a 5.06 ERA in 89 career outings, all but one as a starter, with Atlanta and Pittsburgh.

Pitcher Jeff Karstens, meanwhile, became a free agent after he was non- tendered by the Pirates. He went 5-4 with a 3.97 ERA in 19 games (15 starts) last season.
