Viera, FL (Sports Network) - Ian Desmond clubbed a solo home run, Xavier Nady hit an RBI single and the Washington Nationals edged the Miami Marlins, 3-2, in Grapefruit League action.
Ross Detwiler started for the Nationals and gave up a run on three hits and struck out five in five innings.
Jose Reyes and Logan Morrison both knocked in a run for the Marlins. Josh Johnson allowed three runs on six hits and fanned nine over 5 2/3 innings.
