Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs signed infielder Ian Stewart on Monday.

The 27-year-old, who was limited to 55 games a year ago due to season-ending surgery on his wrist on July 10, hit .201 with five homers and 17 RBI.

Stewart was originally acquired by the Cubs from the Colorado Rockies as part of a four-player deal on Dec. 8, 2011.

He is a career .232 batter with 59 homers and 204 RBI in 487 career major league contests.

To make room for Stewart on the roster, Chicago designated left-handed pitcher Jeff Beliveau for assignment.
