Nicole Brouwer started "The Wonder and Worry of a Teenage Heart" in hopes to inspire and help teenage girls. See her story below:
What inspired the site? I graduated from BYU-Hawaii with a degree in social work and have worked with adolescent girls for over ten years. I think teenage girls are at an amazing time in their life. It's a wonderful time but it can also be really hard. I wanted to create a place where girls can come together and express themselves, encourage each other, and maybe pick up a little advice.
What makes the site unique? The blog is a really cool collaboration of teens sharing their voice and other women sharing some insight from their teen years. It encompasses a variety of cultures and backgrounds but will be consistently clean and full of positive messages for girls.
What kind of content will be shared? The blog will feature a collection of series that are designed to inspire, educate and empower.
Creative Energy: Showcases the talent of young female artists. To open that series I interviewed an amazing teen photographer in the UK, sixteen year old Eleanor Bennett. On the site she shares some of her recent award winning work and offers advice to other up and coming artists.
Be The Change: Inspires girls to make a difference in the world. Our first contributor to that series is a young girl named Maddie that writes about her volunteer work in India.
Girls That Rock: We spotlight female musicians. Brooklyn wrote a beautiful anti-bullying piece for that series.
Our other series cover a wide range of themes. We cover tough topics like eating disorders and having your parents divorce as well as fun things like book recommendations and why it may be a good idea to avoid the "bad boys".
Overall the site is meant to be a place where girls can share their unique voice and learn from other girls around the world.
The launch party will begin Monday November 12th. Those interested can go to the site:
