Lindsay LaPaugh helps break down food labels and tells you what to look for!
Basics on reading a label. Check the serving size, and make sure you don’t eat too many servings
Check to see how many servings are in each package and only eat one
What to look out for “buzz word” & “company claims” like, multi grain, and lowers cholesterol, all natural, fat free. This doesn’t mean that a product is healthy, and most of these terms are not regulated by the government. Avoid:High fructose corn syrup
Trans fat
Partially hydrogenated oil
Read the ingredients FIRST!Ideally you want a product to have less than five ingredients
You want to recognize the ingredients and be familiar with them
If it isn’t something you could find in your kitchen it’s probably not good for you
The ingredients are listed from the most to the smallest by weight. For example if “sugar” is listed as the first ingredient than sugar is in the majority of the product.
Ingredient labels can be confusing, bottom line make sure you know what is listed under the ingredients.
