PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) – Police say an Orem man was arrested and charged with rape after arranging a meeting with a woman through an LDS dating site.

According to Provo Police Sgt. Brandon Post, the man created a fake profile on ldssingles.com and lied to the woman about his name and occupation. The dating website is not affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“One of the reasons why online websites are so bad is because anyone can use them,” Alex Ostler, a young woman who frequents Rock Canyon, said. “I think people use those to prey on women.”

Post said 33-year-old Cladiu Marius Bora arranged to meet the woman at the Provo Temple on July 6.

After meeting at the Provo Temple grounds, police said Bora and the alleged victim drove to the Rock Canyon parking lot and went on a hike.

During the hike, Bora tried to kiss the victim, but she refused his advances.

When they returned to the parking lot, the victim put her purse in the backseat of her SUV. Bora is accused of shoving the victim into the car and raping her.

“That’s pretty twisted,” Elise Otteson, another hiker, said. “I don’t know what kind of mindset he is in, but that’s pretty messed up.”

The statement said the victim constantly tried to fight Bora off and screamed, “No!”

Bora allegedly kept saying, “Didn’t you know that ‘no’ means ‘yes’?”

Police said the alleged victim’s skirt was torn during the assault and she sustained injuries to her genitals.

Police advise anyone who uses online dating websites to be careful. If you plan to meet someone in person, do so in a public place with a group of friends.

“Don’t go to places that are secluded or that aren’t really populated even if it seems like a good idea,” Taylor Weitzeil, another hiker, said.

Police records show Bora is a native of Romania.

Bora was charged Tuesday with 1st Degree Felony Rape, 1st Degree Felony Object Rape and 2nd Degree Felony Forcible Sexual Abuse.

He was arrested and booked into Utah County Jail on Saturday.

Bora is scheduled to appear in court November 1.
