SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Voters in Layton rejected two land referendums related to a development plan on the city's west side.
Proposition No. 2 and Proposition No. 3, challenged a city policy change on 107 acres of farmland which runs along Hill Field Road between 2200 West and 2700 West, and the adoption of an urban development code needed to create an urban community, known as West Layton Village.
Proposition No. 2 was defeated 11,169 to 10,292 and Proposition No. 3 lost 11,206 to 10,239. The land referendums were the first in the state in the last 39 years.
The defeat of these votes doesn't necessarily mean the land won't be developed. PRI, the real estate wing of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, owns the property in question and has maintained that it will develop the property, regardless of what the vote was.
