Many organizations promote the interests of older adults. One of the best known and largest of the organizations is the American Association of Retired Persons, or the A-A-R-P. The A-A-R-P is an organization to aid persons age 50 and over. For a membership fee of eight dollars a year, members receive information on medical insurance, supplemental Medicare, investments, and health and legal information. A-A-R-P lobbies in Congress for laws concerning older Americans and publishes a monthly magazine as well as informational brochures for its members. Discount pharmacy services and organized travel service are also available to members. A-A-R-P has local and regional groups nationwide.
