Who gets cancer?

Story Comments Share
Cancer can strike anyone at any age, and according to the American Cancer Society, it will kill an estimated half a million people or more this year. Cancer in children is relatively rare, but often deadly. It is the major cause of death, by disease, in children ages three to 14. About one in every nine women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Studies show that African Americans get cancer more often than Caucasians and die from it more often. Early detection is the key to survival. Because virtually everyone is a potential target for cancer, here are some things you can do to help prevent it: *Don't smoke or use tobacco in any form; *Drink alcohol in moderation; *Avoid overexposure to the sun, and use sunscreen lotion; *And eat a diet high in fiber and low in fat. For more information about cancer, contact a healthcare provider.
