In the new romantic comedy “This Means War,” two CIA agents go head to head in their quest to win the girl they’ve both been dating.

Chris Pine and Tom Hardy play the two CIA agents and the girl is Reese Witherspoon. The result isn’t bad at all.

The film offers up some pretty funny moments and some good action sequences.

But the main point is - the film definitely has a “sense of itself” without going too far in any one direction. This "middle of the road" sensibility was fundamental in helping the comedy along. Sure there were outrageous moments, but those moments were tempered by equal helpings of action or heartfelt angst.

Special mention needs to go to Chelsea Handler in, perhaps, a movie-stealing role as Witherspoon’s sister. Handler is just flat out funny and a delight to watch.

All in all “This Means War” is a charming adult comedy with just the right balance of gun-play, tenderness and laughs.

It gets a B and is rated PG-13
