“Jeff, Who Lives at Home” stars Jason Segel, Ed Helms and Susan Sarandon.
The plot concerns two brothers - one a pot smoking slacker who lives at home with mom and the other is a Porsche-driving overachiever.
At his mom’s request Jeff (Jason Segel) heads off to the store, but is waylaid by a wrong number. Believing there are no “wrong numbers” (an idea he has developed from the movie “Signs”) he spins off in a new direction and runs into his brother Pat (Helms).
There, the two siblings begin to hash out what’s wrong with each other with Pat learning from his brother that perhaps his way of life needs some re-examination.
The film boasts fine performances by its cast, most prominently Susan Sarandon as the widowed mother, who is quite tired of Jeff’s mooching and wants to launch herself back into the world.
And there’s a wonderfully executed cinematic “twist” which is a bit unexpected, but gives the film a much-needed boost.
“Jeff, Who Lives at Home” ends up to be a heart-warming, off-beat little comedy well worth seeing.
It gets a B+ and s rated R.
