In her latest film “Gone,” Amanda Seyfried portrays a young woman who was abducted by a serial killer, but escaped. She has suffered severe emotional trauma and is just getting back into a normal life when her sister is taken.
“Gone” begins a s a gritty well-paced thriller but eventually slows down into a very routine and cliché-ridden story.
Most of the exchanges are between Seyfried’s character “Jill” and the cops who just won’t listen to her.
I hate movie cops who won’t listen.
I hated them in the original “Blob,” I hated that cop in “Die Hard,” and even in the animated film “Recess: School’s Out”
So, like any other film when cops don’t do their job, it’s up to the heroine to figure out how to get her sister back. But that usually ticks the cops off because they always look bad when they’re proven wrong.
“Gone” isn’t really a bad film; in fact I think Seyfried did a pretty good job carrying the film on her shoulders. But it’s the story that lacks imagination.
“Gone” gets a very average C and is rated PG-13.
