BOULDER MOUNTAIN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The Garfield County Sheriff's Office says a Wayne County man and his dog were killed by a lightning strike over the weekend.
County officials say 24-year-old Jesse King of Bicknell was killed when he and his dog were struck by lightening on a fishing trip at a lake near the west side of Boulder Mountain.
Garfield County officials say at about 7:00 p.m., a storm came through the area, and that King and his dog sought shelter under a tree.
Lightning struck the tree and King and his dog were killed instantly. King was found by his wife, who was at a nearby campsite.
Garfield County Deputy Ray Gardner says that King did everything possible to try to keep himself and his dog safe, and that there was nothing that could have been done to prevent their death.
Garfield County officials say King leaves behind his wife of one year, Maddy Rowland King of Bicknell.
