TOOELE, UTAH (ABC 4 News) - Another one two punch by mother nature. Tooele County is hit hard by wind and snow.
It started off as high winds. Truck drivers making their way across country warned of the dangerous conditions. Leonard Waukey made his way to Utah through Wyoming. "On the signs they were saying it was 50 plus miles an hour, but it could have been gusting to 60," said Waukey.
Those drivers with lighter loads heeding the warnings. Waukey said, "They'll slow down and some have pulled off, you'll see some parked on the side of the road and they'll wait it out."
The wind hurried in the snow catching some drivers in Tooele off-guard. Amber Anderson said, "They haven't shoveled or plowed any place yet so it's been pretty bad with the roads."
Still the parking lot at the Tooele Walmart packed with people making last minute runs. Tabitha Lindquist made the trip out to save herself some money. "I had to take a movie to Blockbuster so we didn't have to pay another late fee," said Lindquist. Others we spoke with needed to grab some storm necessities. David Moir said, "I had to get some Ibuprofen and some food."
The driver plowing the parking lot said this is the worst he's seen it all year. Michael Jensen said, "It's pushing four inches already and it's coming down hard." He's surprised so many are out in the wind and snow. "People are crazy. Go look at the front of the store," said Jensen. "They're everywhere, you'd think they'd stay home."
