SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – There were hundreds of people searching for a new route home or to their next destination at the Salt Lake International Airport after massive destruction from tornadoes in Texas delayed their flights.

Texas residents were on the run after several large and dangerous tornadoes touched down, crushing almost everything in their paths. Mangled metal, big rigs tipped and a trailer yard destroyed. It looked like a scene from an action movie.

One tornado was also spotted in Lancaster quickly moving toward downtown. The weather service expects other tornadoes to develop as a band of severe storms move through the area. Weather radars and storm spotters showed separate tornadoes south of Dallas and near forth worth.

These tornadoes created havoc at Salt Lake International Airport. 5 flights were cancelled; three American Airline flights and two Delta flights.

Jason Rainer, a delayed traveler said, “Scheduled for a 12:30, then it got to a 1:30, and then 2:30 then they finally canceled that flight and then the flight afterward. Everyone scrambled down here to book on their next connection.”

Lynette Milne, another traveler said, “We are hoping they could re-route us, fly us to New York or California.”
