SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Wednesday, meeting in a special session, the State Legislature made some significant changes to Utah's liquor
laws.
It added 90 new liquor licenses for restaurants - 50 full service, 40 limited (wine and beer only).
It also authorized the creation of 4 new DPS compliance officers to monitor liquor activity in restaurants and created funding for more
DUI blitzes by the UHP.
In addition, it delays the selling of liquor licenses by businesses for a year (the selling had been scheduled to go into effect July first).
Finally, it raises the cost of restaurant liquor licenses by 10%.
Both the State House and Senate passed this new liquor bill Wednesday afternoon with little debate.
However, there was some disagreement at Wednesday morning's committee hearing on the bill.
The governor is expected to sign this new liquor legislation and ABC 4 News is told it goes into effect immediately.
