SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Elk Ridge Middle School students are pouring their sadness into memorials for their fallen coach and P.E. teacher Randy Treglown.
"I just feel like everybody really cared about him," said student Sloan Nelson.
Treglown's influence rippled in his community through the students he coached and guided at the school for its roughly 16 years of existence where he coached basketball and taught P.E.
Students are quick to point out his deep sense of genuine concern for students balanced with a strong will to guide and push for improvement.
This combination propelled him in the minds of students as one of the most respected teahers.
Students wore their school shirts Thursday. "I want to show my support to the Treglown Family and to show that he'll be missed," said student Connor Burnett.
Students also memorialized the chair Treglown used to monitor students walking to and from the gym. It was covered with flowers, a stuffed animal and his obituary. "They've just done some really nice things to think about him and to think about the family," said Elk Ridge Middle School Principal, Larry Urry.
Hallways are lined with posters, many of which were sent over from students at South Jordan Middle School.
ABC 4 also found a slogan put to paper in Treglown's handwriting. It reads, "It's easy to make a buck, it's a lot tougher to make a difference."
"He'll be missed very much. He was a great teacher. he was always there to support you," said Burnett.
This experience is teaching Elk Ridge Middle School students how quickly life can dramatically change.
According to Treglown's obituary, his funeral is noon Saturday at the Glenmore 6th Ward, 4200 W. Skye Drive (9800 South), South Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the church from 10:30-11:45 a.m. on Saturday prior to the services. Internment at West Jordan City Cemetery.
