SALT LAKE CITY – (ABC 4 News) - You've heard of “pay it forward”, but this Christmas Season, people are paying it forward 26 times.
It's a concept that seems to be spreading across America - 26 acts of kindness for the 26 adults and children lost at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Connecticut.
“I think the victims could really use some kindness right now," said Jenny Nelson.
"That's a good way to honor the victims, definitely," said Kevin Randle.
"Our hearts go out to those people and they need something special at this time of year," said Kirk Foulger.
Reports are streaming in on Twitter and YouTube, of strangers paying for other peoples meals in drive-thru lines, or buying someone else’s coffee.
"Any chance to do good is great," said Riana Laemmlen.
One person left a 50% tip for their meal, and a thoughtful girl baked 26 angel cookies to give away.
"I know that when I saw the news for that tragedy, it was devastating to me, so I think we should all try to pass on some more kindness," said Leisl Newman.
And throughout Salt Lake on Monday, people signed up.
“I'll start right now,” said Riana.
"We can do 26 acts," Leisl said.
"I will. I will," said Kevin.
Kenya just heard of the 26 acts of kindness, and decided today, she’s going to do it.
"I'll do one hundred if I have to, because I just like seeing people being happy," Kenya said.
I didn’t think I’d be a recipient, but Kenya told me her first act would be to give me a hug.
Twenty-six acts can go a long way, and I’ve decided to do it, too.
