SPRINGVILLE, Utah (ABC 4 News) – When you’re looking for the best young wrestlers in the state, the Mortimer house in Springville is a one stop shop. Three Mortimer siblings each won their division’s state title.
It doesn't matter which sibling you watch, these two brothers and yes even their sister are the best wrestlers in the state, and they've got the hardware to prove it.
"Everyone looked at me like they knew I was going to win," said Sage Mortimer, wrestling champion.
Quenton, Sage, and Talmage Mortimer from Springville are each a 2013 Utah Youth Super State Champion in their individual divisions.
"How do you get to be so good?” Reporter Brian Carlson asked.
“Practicing,” said Sage Mortimer.
“We go to practice everyday," said Quenton Mortimer, wrestling champion.
Their mother is beaming with pride.
"It was pretty crazy. I was really excited. I think I even cried a little bit," said Shanille Mortimer, mother.
With a wrestling coach for a father you probably expect success from Quenton and Talmage, but for their sister to beat up on boys here same age, it’s a rare sight.
"I just figured I was good at it. So I liked it," said Sage Mortimer.
So how good is 10 year old Sage? Carlson probably shouldn't have volunteered to find out.
"This is called the gut rip,” Sage demonstrated on Carlson. “I reach my hand under…”
“It's like that huh? It’s that easy," groaned Carlson.
Each of them has their favorite wrestler. Quenton likes former Iowa State Champion Cael Sanderson, and Talmage said his sister has a crush on Grant LaMont.
"She thinks he's cute,” said Talmage Mortimer, wrestling champion.
And just like their wrestling idols, the Mortimer siblings said this year's championship singlets won't be the only ones in their collection.
"Are you guys going to win the championship next year?” Carlson asked.
“Oh yah," they said.
ABC 4 is told in two weeks the siblings will begin to compete in Greco-Roman style wrestling, which could send them to nationals.
As you might guess, Quenton, Sage and Talmage like to wrestle each other. But they can't agree on who wins the most.
