SALT LAKE CITY - (ABC 4 News) - For Utahn's, a cold winters night doesn't seem to stop the hustle and bustle of downtown.

"it's freezing," said Brooklin Atkinson who just finished ice skating.

"To get down here and have it snowing, it's wonderful," said Riley Day.

Salt Lake City Police are glad to see a vibrant downtown, but they are also seeing accident numbers go up.

"This is the time of year, that we get a heavy traffic flow downtown, there's a lot of pedestrians out, trains moving, so it's always a good reminder for everyone to pay attention as your driving."

Skiers are also celebrating, and are many who just seem to think it was about time.

It's about time it snows for Christmas and everything," Atkinson said.

"It's been too warm for December, we need more," said Tyson Pulsipher.

Despite warmer December temperatures leading up to today's snowfall, measuring stations show that snowfall in the mountains from October to December is above average.

"I like the powder. It's always a plus," said skier Ashley Walker.

With the powder comes some worries. The Utah Avalanche Center has tomorrows forecast at moderate avalanche danger from Logan down to Provo.
