SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – With the latest winter storm about to barrel down on Utah-- comes snow rules.
Every community has a different set and if you don’t follow them you could be out money. To avoid parking tickets or getting towed here's what you need to know.
Salt Lake City asks residents for the following:
•When possible, park vehicles off the streets during a storm and for up to 36 hours after the storm abates.
•You must move your vehicle every 48 hours from where it is parked.
•If you must park on the street, try to coordinate with your neighbors and alternately park on the same side of the street. Also, do not park directly opposite another vehicle on the other side of the street, to avoid a "bottle neck".
•Avoid leaving windows open on your vehicles, plows going by may put snow and ice into the open window.
•Remove snow from around your vehicle after every storm.
In West Valley City: City ordinance requires residents to move their cars off from the street when there is a one inch accumulation of snow or ice on the roadway. Cars parked on the street make it extremely difficult for snow plows to clear snow and ice from the pavement, especially in cul-de-sacs and on dead-end streets.
Residents in most Utah communities are responsible for keeping the sidewalks in front of their homes clear and are advised to pile snow onto their yard, not the street.
If you have a fire hydrant in your yard it's your job to shovel it out too.
Cache County is asking residents to remove garbage and recycling cans from street to help out the plows. And if you want your mail it's your job to shovel out your box.
