SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Millcreek residents are divided on if their Township should become a city.
In just a few weeks, Millcreek could become Utah's 10th largest city. But not all current residents are buying into the idea.
"There appears to be a deep divide," said Millcreek resident Paul Rogers who supports the Township becoming a city.
On November 6 it'll be up to voters to decide whether the four communities that make up Millcreek Township should combine to become a city. Those communities are Millcreek, East Millcreek, Canyon Rim and Mount Olympus.
"The only people who are really going to benefit financially are the people who are going for it right now," said resident Tom Watts who opposes the idea.
A feasibility study released in June 2011 says incorporation is economically feasible but could deliver a negative blow to less affluent areas of Salt Lake County.
"Everyone who's in favor of this wants to keep Millcreek as Millcreek instead of being split up and being incorporated into other parts," said Austin Thompson who plans on voting yes to Millcreek becoming a city.
Millcreek Township is home to about 63,000 people and a concern among most of them is start-up costs of a new city.
"Taxes that we're paying right now to the county or city will all of a sudden go up which is something some can afford and some can't," said Watts.
