MIDVALE, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Police say a suspect faces attempted homicide charges for stabbing a party guest in the neck.

Unified Police spokesmen Lt. Justin Hoyal said the incident happened in the early morning hours of Saturday when Joshua Foster was attending a party at Foster's Midvale apartment.

Hoyal said Foster's female family members began to argue and hit a man who they thought had disrespected them.

Hoyal said the man fled to the apartment parking lot, and the Joshua and the women followed, where the women continued to hit him.

Hoyal said Foster went back to his apartment, retrieved a knife and stabbed the man in the neck.

Hoyal said the stabbing victim then fled the area and was eventually taken to the hospital by some friends.

According to Hoyal, medical staff at the hospital said the knife almost cut the victim's jugular vein. The victim received several stitches in his neck.

Hotyal said the victim identified Joshua Foster as the suspect, and that Foster was not related to or affiliated with the victim.

Witnesses reported a similar chain of events to investigators, according to Hoyal.
