UTAH COUNTY, Utah (ABC 4 News) Speed and icy conditions were factors in a head on collision up Spanish Fork Canyon on Friday night.

At about 8 p.m. a car was traveling southbound on SR-89 near mile marker 301. The car attempted to pass a slow moving vehicle, when it collided with a pickup truck traveling northbound.

One driver was in critical condition and was air lifted from the mouth of Spanish Fork Canyon to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. The second driver was in poor condition and taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Utah Highway Patrol says the road was snow covered and slick at the time of the wreck.

The crash caused the highway to be closed for about an hour.
