Esar Met ordered to stand trial for death of Hser Ner Moo

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A judge has ordered Esar Met to stand trial for the murder of Hser Ner Moo.

Moo's body was discovered inside Met's apartment on March 31, 2008.

Esar Met faces capital murder charges after the seven year old girl was found beaten, raped and strangled in the apartment where Met was staying.

Moo's body was found after a massive search. Her body which was found in the shower of the basement, about 50 yards from where her parents were living.

After more than four years, Met and his team of lawyers finally heard the evidence against him last week.

Preliminary hearings normally happen within months of charges being filed, but both Met and the victim's family speak Burmese or Karin, a dialect in Burma. Certified translators were hard to find.

During the preliminary hearing, Met’s translator said the 25-year-old is confused.

Met's competency came into question over the past four years, adding to more delays.

Moo's parents want Met to get a death sentence if convicted.

Met was scheduled to be arraigned on December 7th.
