SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Monday marked a first for the LGBTQ community, a meeting with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Soulforce's "Equality Ride" came to Salt Lake City for a few of their leaders to meet with representatives of the church.
The church did decline the group to meet with any members of leadership, but did send members of their Public Policy team.
The Soulforce groups spoke of ways to help the LGBTQ community; including language, acceptance and love of LGBTQ people. A main topic was that of language, "Equality Ride" said members of the church needed to get rid of "struggling with same sex attraction."
After the meeting was over Jason Conner who lead today's discussion told ABC4, "Alot of progress needs to be made, but I feel very good about where we have started."
The church sent us the following statement, on the meeting: "The Church meets with many people representing a variety of organizations and issues. Church representatives met with leaders of Soulforce today."
