Epic Brewing Company has become one of the most popular micro breweries in the US. It's so popular; the Utah start-up is now going to open a second shop in Denver.
Basically they said they need more space. The location in Denver is 20,000 square feet, much bigger than its current location. But don't worry Epic fans, they're not going anywhere.
"We are not moving anywhere, this facility will remain and we are actually just expanding our production capability," communication director, Millika Filtz told us.
The expansion has been in the works for about a year. It’s one Millika Filtz says is necessary.
"Yeah, we outgrew this facility quickly we had to expand within 6 months of opening and within 2 years we've already outgrown the expansion we've done here as well," she said.
Right now, Epic produces 16,000 barrels of beer a year. The new facility will add on another 20,000. A small team will move from salt lake to open the new Denver brewery, then they'll hire on about a dozen more locals.
"I haven't personally been out there but it's a cool up and coming neighborhood in Denver," Filtz said.
That neighborhood is called River North. By April, they'll be producing their own Epic brew, but nothing is as good as the original. Utah will forever hold that title.
"We’re not looking to ever leave Utah," Filtz said.
Hopefully that's some reassurance for those nervous epic fans out there.
So why not just open another place here? Apparently, the competition between brewers here is really intense, as are the liquor laws, that's why they decided to try Colorado.
