SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Police say a 17-year-old boy was walking out of his apartment complex when he was asked by man to give him a ride. The incident ended with the boy being grazed by a bullet.
Around 1:30 a.m., police say a 17-year-old boy was walking out of the Terrace Apartments in Sandy when a man on the sidewalk asked him for a ride.
Once inside the vehicle, police say the man took out his gun and directed the teen into a neighborhood.
Pointing his gun at the teen, police say the man demanded the boy's keys, wallet and money.
As the suspect got out of the vehicle, police say the teen grabbed the gun, causing a fight to break out between the two.
Police say the gun went off and a bullet went through the teen's shorts, grazing his skin.
Investigators say the suspect got into a waiting Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The Sandy Police Department received a tip from a neighboring police agency and the owner of the Jeep and the owner was taken into custody.
The incident is still under investigation.
