SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) The FBI is asking for your help tracking down a man known as the "AK-47 bandit."
Authorities say has hit several banks all brandishing his favorite assault weapon-- two in California, one in Washington and just this week struck a credit union in Rexburg, Idaho.
The bandit is on the move which has the FBI in Salt Lake City on alert. “He's very brazen he goes in with what appears to be an assault riffle and does what we call a take over robbery,” said Debbie Dujanovic Bertram, an FBI spokeswoman. “In the case of Rexburg, he actually ordered customers and employees into the vault and then escaped with the money.”
The AK-47 bandit isn't afraid to use his weapon either. He proved that during a robbery in Chino. The FBI said he came across a police officer and started firing seriously injured the officer.
The suspect is described as a male, 5’10”, wearing a mask, black gloves and a black coat with a hood. The FBI and the East Idaho Credit Union are offering a combined $70,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Certainly walking into a bank with an AK-47 puts people and there lives in jeopardy,” said Dujanovic Bertram. “That's why it's very critical for us to get this person off the streets, get this person in custody and get this person prosecuted.”
