SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - The number of organ donor registrations drastically increased in Utah the same day Facebook announced it added new features linked to the cause.
According to Yes Utah, Utah's official donor registry, the website saw nearly a 2,000 percent increase in registrations on Tuesday.
Jamie Newman, a living donor, said the numbers are exciting to see. She donated a kidney to a stranger in 2004. Newman was a teenager when she registered in Utah as an organ donor following the death of her father, who requested his organs be donated.
Newman encourages other to list themselves as organ donors on the social media website.
"It's a way to let your feelings know," Newman said. "Nobody wants to think about the fact that they're going to die, but if you really give it some thought you may realize that you want to be an organ donor."
