SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Police are revealing suspicious activity by Steven Powell on the night Susan Powell went missing. First there was an afternoon phone call from Josh to his father, and then Steven calling in sick the next day. These are the latest developments in the case police are building against Josh Powell’s father.
On the day Susan Powell went missing, Josh Powell reached out to his dad. According to the search warrant, Josh Powell made a phone call at 12:19 p.m. to Steve Powell in Washington State.
Later that night, Josh Powell claims he was camping with his two sons near the Cedar Fort Area in Tooele County and he told police that Susan had stayed home.
But now another twist to this father-son relationship,
According to a spokesperson with the Washington State Department of Corrections, Powell called his boss at the prison facility early Monday morning, only hours after talking with his son.
The spokesperson for the corrections facility, Judi Feliciano stated, “He did have unscheduled sick leave on December 8th and 9th in 2009,” she adds, “He just said, “I'll be gone tomorrow and the 9th.””
Powell was a salesman for the corrections department selling furniture made by prison inmates.
For two days in December, the days following Susan Powell’s disappearance, Steve Powell completely disappeared.
Questions are posed such as; Where did he go and what did he do?
It certainly creates a cloud of suspicion especially when you connect the dots.
For now, West Valley Police won't talk about the case.
But they do have Steven Powell on their radar. In February, following the tragic murder of his two grandsons, the West Valley Police Chief made that known, Chief Buzz Nielson said, “The question is absolutely. He's part of the people we talk to that we had some interest in."
West Valley City Sgt. Mike Powell also stated, “He is someone we would be interested in speaking with because we believe that it would be very beneficial to speak with us directly. He has not allowed that."
And that's because Steve Powell may be the only one left alive that knows what happened to Susan.
Steven Powell remains in a Washington Jail facing felony charges there.
But if there's evidence of wrongdoing in Utah, he could be looking at a range of crimes from obstruction of justice, kidnapping or perhaps even murder.
