Fair skies create the perfect scenario for night time star gazing and this weekend will be ideal for that.  According to Patrick Wiggins, a NASA and Solar System ambassabor for Utah, there is alot to see this time of the year.  I often see some brilliant stars and planets while driving to work in the middle of the night.  I asked Patrick what is so vivid right now and he says it's the planet Jupiter which he says is bright and easy to see low in the east at about 1 AM and then high in the SE sky by 5 AM.
There is a great way for you to see the stars and the planets this weekend at a star party.  The Salt Lake Astronomical Society will be holding free star parties for public tonight (Friday night) in the parking lot of Harmon's grocery store in Draper from sunset until 11 PM and Saturday night at the society's Stansbury Park Observatory Complex also from sunset to 11pm.
So, grab your friends and family and head outdoors for some amazing sights in the skies this weekend.
    Enjoy!
