SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A 70-year-old Salt Lake City man killed his domestic partner before turning the gun on himself, in what became the first homicide of 2013, authorities said Monday.

According to authorities, the elderly gunman shot his 67-year-old partner inside their home near 1000 South and 400 East in Salt Lake City. The bodies of both men were discovered there after a hospice worker could not get ahold of them by telephone last Friday. Officials say the men were last seen alive on Wednesday.

Investigators believe it to be a case of murder-suicide, although a motive is not yet clear. Police said no note was left, and that there had been no previous incidents at the men's residence.

Officials said both men were in declining health.
