MORONI, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The Wood Hollow Fire began at 4:00 pm on Saturday, June 23. David Taylor, Fairview Planner and Sanpete Sheriff Volunteer, immediately responded by helping evacuate families living in his subdivision, but while helping others he lost everything.
Working all night and into the morning, his home caught fire the following day. It wasn't until 7:00 pm Sunday that Taylor returned to find his home and belongings destroyed.
"We lost everything, except the clothes on our back, our two vehicles and our ATV we were using on the fire," Taylor said.
David estimates the value of his belongings totals close to $500,000. Although his estate was fully insured, Taylor is more upset about the lost items money can't buy: his family photos, marriage certificate and important documents he will never get back.
"The first time we saw it, it was devastating and yet we have to keep the perspective and realize how blessed we really are," his wife Janice Taylor said.
Along with the home, many fir and Austrian pine trees were completely burned on their property.
The couple has not yet decided whether to rebuild their home or move.
