LOGAN, Utah (ABC 4 Sports) - Jarred Shaw recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds to pace Utah State to an 80-71 victory over Illinois State in a BracketBusters game on Saturday night.

Utah State (16-13) also got 16 points from Spencer Butterfield, 13 points from TeNale Roland and 10 points from Marvin Jean. Roland hit three 3-pointers. Marcel Davis had eight assists.

“A win is a win for this team," said Utah State head coach Stew Morrill. "Having a Missouri Valley Conference team here and finding a way to win the game is very positive. We didn’t start out very well, looked like we could get beat by 30, but we righted the ship and did a lot of good things."

Illinois State (19-7) was 11 of 32 from 3-point range, including 7 of 14 by Tyler Brown. He also had 10 rebounds.

Jackie Carmichael had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Illinois State.

Utah State had a 17-9 scoring advantage off turnovers and 19-5 edge in bench scoring.

“When teams play us in a zone our team has such great shooters so the defense has to play up on our shooters and if I could get into the middle I could hit our guys down low or take it to the rim for a bucket,” said Davis.

The Aggies next play at Louisiana Tech Thursday night.
