SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Two men are in police custody after allegedly robbing a man at gunpoint, stealing his Porsche, and leading police on a high-speed chase through a Salt Lake neighborhood.
The men, Matthew Cardenas, 29 and Tyler Williams, 24 allegedly robbed an employee of LMK Interior Design near 4626 South Highland Drive Friday morning. According to the victim, the two men pulled up behind him in a white pickup truck, brandished a hand gun and demanded his car, wallet, and money.
A few hours following the robbery, police tracked the men to a home near 249 Paxton Avenue in Salt Lake. When the men noticed police approaching, they took off in the Porsche 911, leading them on a chase that reached 120 MPH on I-15 and I-80 eastbound.
The chase ended in the area of 3070 South and 700 East when the men parked the car in a driveway and took off on foot in the neighborhood. Police pursued the men for over an hour with the help of their K-9 Unit. Eventually, Williams was found hiding in a backyard and complied when police took him into custody.
Williams surrendered after being found hiding behind a shed, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal. Cardenas attempted to run again after he was spotted, but was taken into custody after an officer deployed a Taser.
Both men face multiple felony charges, including aggravated robbery, fleeing police officers, and possession of a stolen car.
Hoyal tells ABC 4 News that the hand gun used during the robbery has not been recovered. The stolen Porsche has been taken into evidence.
