STANSBURY PARK, Utah (ABC 4 News) – Stansbury High School threw a second Homecoming dance Friday night, called “Take 2”, after a controversial decision at the first dance left many unable to attend.
Friday students responded. They showed up excited and ready to party.
“I’m pumped. I love dancing!” said Aly Harding, Junior, Stansbury High School.
“I have nothing else better to do tonight,” said Dakota Woodley, student.
“It’s going to be so much fun,” said Dani Williams, Senior, Stansbury High School.
Friday night Stansbury High School is giving its students a makeup homecoming dance. Why? – the school banned a good number of them from the first one.
“It was unfortunate that the first homecoming dance went down the why it did,” said Kendall Topham, Stansbury High School Principal.
Two weeks ago several dozen students, like Kailey Wolf, weren’t allowed inside because their dresses were supposedly too short.
“I felt frustrated,” said Kailey Wolf, Junior, Stansbury High School.
“I was appalled at the way it was handled,” said Shelly Wolf, upset parents.
Parents were angry, students complained the dress code wasn’t clear, and the school agreed.
“Our goal has been to bring resolution to the situation and we’re doing that with this replacement dance,” said Topham.
While it may not fix the past, some students are glad the school is trying.
“I’m happy they did it again,” said Paris Matrivers, student.
“I think it’s a quick save,” said Bryson Griffith, student.
“I think they kind of owe it to us because they kicked so many people out last time,” said Woodley.
“I think it’s a good thing because a lot of people at our school were really mad about how the last dance turned out,” said Williams.
When asked about how closely the school would be monitoring the dress code for the make-up dance, the Principal said for one night only they would allow girls to wear skirts three inches shorter than normal, just to make sure girls whose skirts were questionably close the first time, didn’t get kicked out of two dances in a row.
