SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 Sports) - Aaron Roderick has had a change of heart and is returning to Utah.

One day after accepting an assistant coaching job at his alma mater BYU, Roderick decided to stay with the Utes, where he has been since 2005. He was the team's passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach last year.

This is the second time in his career Roderick has changed his mind about a coaching job. In 2009, he accepted a position at the University of Washington, but shortly thereafter, returned to Utah.

"Aaron decided his heart was at Utah and with our football program and asked me for the opportunity to return," head coach Kyle Whittingham said in a statement. "Aaron has been a valuable member of our coaching staff for the past eight years and is an excellent coach and recruiter. We are pleased he chose to stay with us."

Roderick also released a statement Thursday afternoon.

"The response from my players, our coaches and the fans left me overwhelmed and I realized how much I loved it here and didn't want to leave," Roderick said. "I believe in Coach Whittingham and this program and I want to continue to be a part of it."
