HIGHLAND, Utah (ABC 4 Sports) - For the first time ever, a high school basketball team from Utah is ranked #1 in the nation.

Maxpreps.com ranked the Lone Peak Knights as the top team in the entire country. Lone Peak (7-0) was #2 last week, but when Simeon Academy (Chicago) lost to Desoto (Texas) this past week, Lone Peak moved up to the top spot.

Led by three BYU-bound players, Nick Emery, T.J. Haws and Eric Mika, the Knights are undefeated as they head to the prestigious City of Palms Classic Tournament in Fort Myers, Florida.

Lone Peak will play the top team from Mississippi, Callaway High on Wednesday, and if the Knight win, they will then most likely take on the #3 ranked team in the country, Chester High from Pennsylvania. Chester is currently riding a 60-game win streak.

The Knights have already beaten Chicago powerhouse Proviso East, the top team in Colorado (Denver East) and the second best team in Utah, Orem.

ESPN had Lone Peak ranked 6th in the nation last week, but their latest rankings have not yet been released.

The Knights have won back-to-back 5A state championships, and is the heavy favorite to make it three titles in a row.
