Jury finds boat owner guilty in swimmer's death

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A jury has found the owner of a powerboat guilty on all charges for his role in a swimmer's death last year at an Ogden-area reservoir.

The Standard Examiner reports that the jury found the 22-year-old Skyler Shepherd guilty on three counts: reckless endangerment, obstruction of justice and leaving the scene of an accident.

Shepherd wasn't driving when the boat hit University of Utah scientist Esther Fujimoto on Pineview Reservoir. Shepard took the wheel to circle back and says the woman appeared irritated but uninjured, so he took off.

Lawyers for Shepherd argued that the woman put herself in danger by swimming in open water.

Two other men face a separate trial in February. All three face charges of failing to render aid, reckless endangerment and obstructing justice.
