Avalanche in Summit County

Park City, Utah (ABC 4 News)- Summit County Search and Rescue crews are responding an avalanche. 

The call came into Summit County Dispatch Center just after noon today.  Sheriff Dave Edmund says they are deploying all Search and Rescue crews to Dutch Draw.  Nine skiers were in the area at the time, a Summit County spokesperson said all have been accounted for and the avalanche caused no injuries.

Dutch Draw is an area just outside the boundaries of the Canyons Ski Resort owned by the National Forest Service near Park City.  It's steep terrain is appealing for back-country skiers willing to take the risk. "We've had fatalities in that area over the last five to seven years," said Edmund. We are constantly trying to educate folks on the dangers of skiing out of bounds."

Conditions for an avalanche Wednesday were "high". 100 inches of snow were reported on the ridges. "This last storm dumped a lot and with the wind conditions it's just been treacherous up there," said Edmund.
