SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - An Alta senior was chosen from hundreds of kids in America, to be a part of the Jazz Band of America next week. It is a very elite honor and Jacob White is the first Utahn to do this.

Jacob White explains what will happen next week, "I leave for Indianapolis and I get to play with some of the best musicians in the country."

With a bit of encouragement from his band director, earlier this school year, Jacob applied for the Jazz Band of America.

Alta's Band Director Bill Mattingly explained, "It is made up of the best music kids from across the country."

Jacob is the very first Utah student to make it to the Jazz Band of America, a huge honor Jacob is very humble about.

Jacob said, "I didn't think I was going to make it."

Jacob's love of music started with the piano and then in Jr. High he decided to pick up the Saxophone, it was love at first sight.

Jacob said, "The sound of it is what i really, really liked."

Jacob's success hasn't just been because of his talent, while that is unreal, his work ethic is impressive.

Mattingly said, "He has natural talent, but he has put in a lot of hard work and when you have the work ethic and the talent it makes you unstoppable."

So unstoppable, it's hard for him to stop playing.

Jacob said, "I just love the instrument so much, if i want to take a practice day I have to leave the instrument here or else I will practice."

As far as Jacob's future, after Jazz Band of America, he will live the musician's dream.

Jacob said, "Probably starve to death as a musician, it is a joyous looking future."
