SALT LAKE COUNTY (ABC 4 News) - Fatigue played a major role in an early morning accident that killed two people and closed east bound I-80 for five hours Monday morning.

A silver Mustang was driving eastbound on I-80 near SR201 around 1 a.m. When the driver lost control. The vehicle went off the road, hit an embankment and rolled back onto I-80.

UHP tells ABC4 has the Mustang reentered the freeway, another vehicle hit the car.

The Mustang's female passenger was ejected during the rollover and was hit by a semi trailer.

Both the driver and passenger of the Mustang died at the scene.

UHP said both victims were wearing seat belts during the accident. The couple was from Houston, Texas.
