An Orem man gets a call from home to only hear shuffling and heavy breathing on the other end. Now, he's embarrassed by the dog gone behavior that sent officers rushing to his home.

Bruce Gardner’s dog, Maya, is a happy go lucky golden lab.

"She absolutely just loves to play soccer," Bruce said.

But on Wednesday, she decided to play a game of scare the pants off poppa. Bruce had just gotten to work when he got a frightening call. So he quickly dialed 9-1-1.

"I just left my house no more than 30 minutes ago, and I got a phone call form my home phone and I know no one was there, I think someone is breaking into my house" Gardner said to the

He rushed home while talking to the dispatcher.

"So you can hear something?” The dispatcher asked.

“Yeah I kept yelling hello, hello and all I can hear is things being thrown around and stuff,” Gardner said.

Officers responded, but found no signs of a break in.

"sure enough, nothing was stolen nothing was taken,” Gardner said.

He was stumped, so he began looking for the phantom phone.

"So I called it, and as I was walking this way towards the kennel, I could hear it," Gardner said.

In the back of the garden, he found his evidence.

"It was really dirty I picked it up and sure enough there are teeth marks on it where she chewed it up,” Gardner said.

Maya apparently found the phone and decided it would be a good chew toy. Her teeth hit the redial button.

"She didn't quite finish chewing it up because the police officers came and kind of distracted her," Gardner said with a laugh.

He said Maya likes to chew anything in sight, unfortunately this time, that dog gone behavior lead to a dog gone mess.

"It was a relief a strong relief, but also an embarrassment," Gardner said laughing.

Gardner figured out that his kids had left the phone outside, that's how Maya was able to get a hold of it. It's a mistake he says won't happen again.
