SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A junior high school English and history teacher from Orem has been named Utah's Teacher of the Year for 2013.
Sara Hacken of Lakeridge Junior High won $10,000 and other prizes, and will represent the state in national Teacher of the Year competition.
Among other things, Hacken was praised by parents and students for bringing history to life through innovative teaching methods.
Utah State Superintendent of Public Instruction Larry K. Shumway made the announcement Friday night.
A committee made up of school administrators, other educators and parents selected Hacken from among 25 nominations.
