SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - An alert neighbor is being credited with alerting firefighters to a house fire, and saving the family inside.

It happened just after midnight on Friday near 9900 South Poppy Lane.

Firefighters tell us that a neighbor was walking their dog in the area, when they noticed the fire burning on the side of the home.

When firefighters arrived, they were able to wake the family up inside the home and get them out safely.

The fire did cause damage to the roof and the attic of the house.

The cause is still under investigation this morning.
