SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - An open house was held on Tuesday today for the newest fire station in Salt Lake County.

Fire Station #108 is located in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

UFA spokesman Captain Cliff Burningham says that for the past 34 years, the surrounding community was protected primarily by on-call or volunteer firefighters, making the new facility a pretty big deal for those living in the area...

“This is pretty monumental to have this opportunity where we have full time firefighters staffed up here in this station for the first time,” said Burningham.

The fire station is 13.9 nine miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon and is located on the right hand side of the highway, just before the Guardsman's Pass turnoff.
