DRAPER, Utah (ABC 4 News) - There over a 150 Utah families who finally feel complete. The Utah National Guard 211th Aviation unit arrived from Afghanistan Sunday after a year deployment.
“It's pretty tough always hoping that he's safe and comes home,” said Cheri Butler, whose son served with the 211th.
The homecoming couldn't come soon enough for Annette Bolton. After 30 years in the military, her husband retires next month.
“I was so worried that he wouldn't come home because we're getting ready to retire and I didn't want to be alone,” she said.
The unit’s mission was to conduct aerial route reconnaissance and provide armed escorts.
“They've been supporting flying armed escort for med evac missions throughout Afghanistan,” said Peter Adams, Deputy Commander, 97th Aviation Troop Command.
The soldiers arrived from overseas earlier this week, but they have been undergoing demobilization processing at Fort Hood, Texas.
