The Best and Worst Moments of the 2012 American Music Awards
I always look forward to the American Music Awards because there are way more performances than most award ceremonies, but my one critique is that overall the show is a bit lackluster when it comes to unexpected, controversial moments.
This is a room full of crazy rock stars-why does it run like a smooth machine? All that aside, the show had its best (and, yes, worst) moments...
Best Moment: Eric Stonestreet Calling Out Taylor Swift's "OMG, another award?!?" Shocked Face
I really do love Taylor Swift, but I had to laugh when Modern Family's Eric Stonestreet said, "Taylor, have you ever won an award before?" P.S. Again, love her, but I think it's interesting that she won for Best County Artist at the AMAs but didn't take any awards at the CMAs this year. Just sayin'.
Worst Moment: What Was Justin Bieber Wearing?
the dude was wearing a leather tank top, red MC Hammer pants (that were leather too, I think?), and shiny red sneakers. Blegh. I'm sorry to all the Beliebers reading this, but WHAT?
Best Moment: When Nicki Minaj Rapped About Selena Gomez During Her Performance With Justin Bieber Picture this: I'm home alone at my apartment, comfy on the couch in my fuzzy socks, eating Thai, and Nicki Minaj raps, "But I gotta keep an eye out for SELENER" while performing "Beauty and a Beat" with Justin Bieber. There was even, like, kind of an awkward pause before she said it. My reaction: I dropped my fork, nearly spit my food out, and yelled "OMG THAT REALLY HAPPENED?!" to... nobody. So awk considering, you know, Justin and Selena have reportedly broken up and all, but hands down it was the most unexpected, exciting thing to happen tonight. Leave it to Nicki to be responsible for that.
Worst Moment: Chris Brown He didn't do anything too terrible tonight, but every time he gets applause, my heart dies a little inside. Ugh, I can't even. And will somebody tell him to stop taking his shirt off all the dang time?
Best Moment: The Performances Some performances (Kelly Clarkson's greatest hits montage, P!NK doing circus acrobats while still singing like the diva she is) were better than others (Sorry, X-Tina), but I like the range of artists that perform-good and bad. (More on my observations below!)
